Our skin is a true reflection of what’s going on with us internally!
When we start to experience problematic skin issues such as premature aging, sun damage, dryness, lack of lustre, acne, or eczema, we have to look beyond the surface. At the root of poor skin health, we can often find imbalances in the body caused by oxidative stress, nutrient deficiencies, poor liver and gut health, and hormonal imbalances.
Including more antioxidant-rich foods and specific nutrients in our diet can enhance our skin health and prevent premature aging. By incorporating foods such as blueberries, dark leafy greens, and avocados, which are rich in antioxidants, we can combat oxidative stress and reduce the risk of premature aging.
Similarly, incorporating essential fatty acids such as omega-3s, found in fatty fish like salmon, and vitamin E, found in nuts and seeds, can help to improve skin hydration and prevent dryness.
Additionally, improving liver and gut health can also have a positive impact on our skin. Including probiotics in our diet, such as those found in fermented foods like kimchi or kombucha, can help to balance the gut microbiome and reduce inflammation in the body. Similarly, liver-supportive foods like leafy greens and beets can help to promote healthy liver function and detoxification.
By addressing the root causes of poor skin health through dietary changes and lifestyle modifications, we can achieve radiant, healthy skin that truly reflects our inner vitality.
Fuel your body with these must-have nutrients
- Boost your skin health with essential minerals like zinc, found in pumpkin seeds, meat, and dark leafy greens. Zinc aids in collagen formation, controls oil production, and enhances skin brightness and glow
- Support your skin's elasticity and repair damaged cells with selenium, found in Brazil nuts and mustard seeds. Selenium aids in glutathione production, preventing wrinkles and fine lines.
- Prevent premature aging and support new cell growth with copper, found in dark leafy greens and olives. Copper is essential for the production of superoxide dismutase and can even help prevent premature grey hair.
- Fight off inflammation and oxidative stress that lead to premature aging and sun damage with vitamins C and E, carotenoid and polyphenol antioxidants, and healthy fats. Incorporate antioxidant-rich foods like cabbage, broccoli sprouts, sunflower seeds, olive oil, and avocados into your diet.
