You've figured out which functional mushrooms to take, but now you're unsure how to incorporate them into your daily routine and when to take them. Sometimes, this part can be even more challenging!
Just as when determining which functional mushroom is best for you, it's best to consider a few key factors first. Here are four important factors that will influence the best time:
Identifying Your Greatest Area of Need: Which Symptom Requires the Most Support?
- Is there a specific time of day when this area of need or symptom is at its worst and needs the most support?
- The health benefits of the functional mushroom
- Lifestyle considerations
- What is your area of greatest need or symptom that needs the most support?
- It can be helpful to list a range of symptoms or areas of your health that could benefit from extra support. Once you have your wish list, identify one - the area of greatest need. This can influence the time of day that's best for you.
Here are a couple of examples:
- Energy levels - support sleep in the evening or support in the morning when you tend to experience low energy levels the most
- Brain fog - support in the morning or support just before you tend to experience brain fog symptoms
- Insomnia or poor sleep - support in the evening
- Mood - support sleep in the evening, support energy levels in the morning, support any time of day

Sometimes, the answer is right in front of us and obvious! If you consistently experience this symptom each day around the same time, then supplementing with functional mushrooms about one hour before could help alleviate your experience with it. Here are a couple of examples:

Lifestyle Considerations
Sometimes, the above information isn't entirely applicable to us. We may be forgetful about incorporating supplements into our routine or haven't yet entirely found the groove. Or, you're a night shift worker, and your world and routine are different!
Here are some tips to consider:
It's better to be consistent. Taking them with all your other supplements at once is better than not taking them at all.
"Stack your habits" - just like James Clear's book, Atomic Habits, don't create an entirely new wellness routine. Sometimes, that's a lot of work and isn't feasible. Add your functional mushrooms to already-established habits. Taking magnesium in the evening before bed? Add in Reishi!
You may find it easier if you take your functional mushroom products together at the same time. This is called "mushroom stacking," and we do it too!
Preference over capsules or powdered blends? Both deliver a therapeutic dose of functional mushroom extracts, but they offer two different forms! If you're someone who finds capsule products more conducive to their lifestyle, go with that. If you find yourself unable to take capsules and would instead add the powdered blends, go with that.
